Want to foster a future service dog?
Explore our Host Home volunteer role—perfect for those who want to make a meaningful impact while maintaining a flexible schedule.
Host Homes provide a loving, stable environment for our dogs in training, but unlike our Volunteer Dog Trainers, they aren’t required to attend weekly training classes. Instead, dogs in Host Homes continue their training during the day at Helping Paws’ Blue Coat Academy (BCA), where they work one-on-one with our professional trainers to develop the advanced skills needed to become Assistance Dogs.
You can drop dogs off at BCA a few times a week, or we can coordinate daytime pick-up through our volunteer-powered “D-Uber” (Dog Uber) van service. Host Homes are a vital part of our training pipeline, offering structure, socialization, and care that complements the intensive work done at Helping Paws.
